Mobile Institute

About

Mobile Institute is an art platform initiated by artists. It is not associated to a specific place and values a more open platform for art development and its various exhibited forms. MI is a flexible interface:

1. As a Platform, MI is a catalyst for networking and creates the conditions in which artists can produce artwork. This specificity makes it stand as a network and a structure.

2. MI develops Projects as an artist group, working in association with established institutions and artists. Through its dynamic behaviour, MI creates specific productions.

3. The Laboratory is an experimental area where the MI utopian vision and research are used as a device for generating projects.

The Mobile Institute events took place several times during the month of August 2007, filling vacant buildings and outdoor spaces in the vicinity of "Le Noailles" Hotel. Art Platform such as "Nadine", the old "Styx" cinema and still active rendez-vous hotel "Le Berger" were given spaces to develop artwork.
Collaborating with existing infrastructures (institutes, organisations, cultural centres and cinemas) the Mobile Institute covered events such as performances, lectures, debates and exhibitions involving artist in residence at "Le Noailles". The aim was to stimulate the exchange between artists and institutions in order to create a more collaborative network.
The overall scheme was to provide a self-managed organisation with multiple functions. Subsequently, artists were asked to develop a site-specific artwork. Locations and spaces formed the basis of all art events thereby creating an emergent network. Events took place on Fridays throughout the month of August.
